They pair this with Haydn’s late E major trio, in turn playful and highly expressive, and a trio by Heinrich Marschner. Marschner (1795-1861) was regarded as of the most important composers in Germany in the nineteenth century, a friend of Beethoven and Mendelssohn and a strong influence on Schumann.
