Add to my Calendar 06-10-2018 13:00 06-10-2018 15:00 36 Come & Sing Verdi Requiem Come and sing Verdi’s magnificent Requiem, in an ambitious day of music-making led by celebrated conductor and choral trainer Adrian Partington, and have the rare chance to perform this masterpiece alongside members of the prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra, young professional instrumentalists and soloists Hye-Youn Lee, Olivia Ray, Mark Wilde and Dominic Barrand. Rehearsal workshop starts 1 pmConcert performance starts 7 pm Giuseppe Verdi composed his dramatic Messa da Requiem in 1874, in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, an Italian poet and novelist whom Verdi admired. By turns terrifying and heart-breakingly beautiful, it is well-known for its exquisite melodies and depth of emotion, as one might expect from the master of Italian opera. This ambitious performance sees professional soloists and instrumentalists come together with an amateur choir in support of the Three Choirs Festival. Adrian Partington's versatility as a successful conductor, chorus master, choral trainer, pianist and organist is well-known. Educated at the Royal College of Music, he studied with Herbert Howells and then at King’s College, Cambridge where he was both organ and academic scholar. He is now Artistic Director of the Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester. Please join us in the Footstool Restaurant in the Crypt for a post-concert reception hosted by the Three Choirs Festival Society. All welcome! Singers’ passes £25 (£23 if booked before 14 September) to include light refreshments. Music hire £5 + £15 returnable deposit. Audience tickets £15, £12, £10.
