Programme Note

The London City Philharmonic will perform Madama Butterfly Opera at St John’s Smith Square on 7 and 8 June 2024. This will be a semi-stage performance in a concert version with a full size symphony orchestra sung in the original language in Italian.

Madama Butterfly is one of opera’s most enduring tales of unrequited love. Puccini’s touching score follows the tragic tale of Cio Cio San, a young Japanese girl who falls in love with American naval officer Pinkerton, with devastating consequences.
