An evocative programe devised by Madeleine Mitchell of night music by American composers, ranging from the beautiful bluesy Nocturne by Copland of 1928 (on Mitchell's album 'Violin Songs') to the delicate sonorities of Crumb and Cage and the lively rag by Bolcom, who is 80 this year. Madeleine was a Fulbright/ITT Fellow to New York and met Ned Rorem (b.1923) when she led the Contemporary Ensemble at the Aspen Festival. She plays 4 movements of his Night Music of 1976: 2 Moths; The Lighthouse; Gnats; and Saying Goodbye Driving Off, with Nathan Williamson who has received wide praise for his recordings of American Music.
