Programme Note
In 2016 this extraordinary concert pianist, described as “Stunning” by Classic FM, became the first British pianist to perform all 234 of Chopin’s solo piano works from memory in an 11-recital series at St John’s Smith Square. He is now recording Chopin’s complete works and in 2018, launched The Piccadilly Chamber Music Series (an annual celebration of Chamber Music in the West End) and became Artistic Director of the new chamber orchestra, The Piccadilly Sinfonietta.
He returns to St John's on 29th November 2019 with a varied programme, featuring Beethoven's stirring 'Tempest' sonata and two brilliant works by Ravel and Debussy, both written within two years of each other. The programme is complimented by two neglected, but highly attractive works by Chopin: the Bolero and the mighty Concert Allegro, his blueprint for an uncompleted third piano concerto. The concert ends with a rousing climax: Liszt's devilish Mephisto Waltz.
