Programme Note
This concert commemorates the 500th anniversary of Luther's Reformation which began in October 1517. The reformer and theologian Luther was also fine lutenist, flautist and singer who gathered his family together every evening to sing motets, a testament to his belief that the performance of music should not only be confined to church services, but be a living and accessible presence in the community and in the home - parallels found in Bach's own life and also in our lives today.
Described as "phenomenal" (The Times) and "devastatingly beautiful" (The Gramophone) Tenebrae is known for its passion and precision in performance and is currently enj oyying its 15th anniversary. The choir is making its debut at London Bach Society's Bachfest.
