Programme Note

Vaughan Williams’ rich and impassioned Mass in G Minor forms the centrepiece for this inspiring programme of music from the English choral tradition. English ‘pastoralism’, rooted in folk music, nostalgia, and a love of the English countryside, revolutionised British music in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, giving rise to some of the greatest church music ever written. Do not miss this concert of stirring pieces, several of them chosen by members of the choir.
