Gerard Finzi 's rousing work is followed by three new compositions by Stephen Johnson, presenter of Radio 3’s critically-acclaimed "Discovering Music". The first half will conclude with the world premiere of the winning work from the Stella Jockel Young Composer Competition, set up by the Chorus in 2022 to support young composers, funded by Stella’s generous legacy. The concert ends with Gabriel Fauré’s hauntingly beautiful and much-loved Requiem. “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.” A wonderful way to bring your weekend, and this marvellous festival, to a close!
