Fauré Requiem

And other French Sacred Music

Part of the Epsom Chamber Choir 2025-2026 Cycle

Add to my Calendar 15-11-2025 19:30 15-11-2025 21:30 36 Fauré Requiem A wonderful work with a wonderful choir in a wonderful venue! Epsom Chamber Choir’s Autumn concert explores the rich heritage of French liturgical music, with the iconic Fauré Requiem as its pièce de résistance. Known for its reflective and peaceful approach focusing on the afterlife rather than the wrath of judgement day, audiences will be very familiar with this much-loved work but perhaps less so with this intimate orchestration by David Hill for organ, violin, 'cello and harp. This is complemented by shorter, a cappella sacred works by other French composers, with the sneaky addition of Whitacre’s "Sainte Chapelle"! Conductor Jack Apperley says: “We have managed to contrive a programme of French music sung entirely in Latin! In the 19th and 20th centuries the French produced a wealth of beautiful sacred music. While the Fauré Requiem is a choral classic, the other less familiar works bring a particular French character with their phrasing of the Latin texts and their spicy harmonies.” St Martin’s Church, with its wonderful acoustics, is the perfect setting for this inspiring programme and the highly-regarded Epsom Chamber Choir can be counted on to deliver a memorable performance under Jack Apperley’s direction.
