Programme Note

Epsom Choral Society's first concert of 2023 is a wonderful programme entitled 'Visions of Eternity'. It is a concert of radiant sacred music, ranging from the contemplative to the dazzlingly joyful.

Visions of Eternity brings together an eclectic selection of works depicting the celestial journey towards the unknown. From 'chariots of clouds' and 'flaming fires' in Jonathan Dove's dramatic Bless the Lord O my Soul to the hushed simplicity of Brahms Geistliches Lied, this programme will explore the different ways in which composers depict the idea of eternity.

The programme also features an ethereal setting of the Son of God Mass by James Whitbourn for choir, saxophone and organ, Arvo Part's minimalist setting of the Salve Regina text and John Tavener's moving response to the death of a friend's father in Svyati for choir and solo cello.
