As well as the well known composers, less familiar names are also being given the limelight, including Austrian Heinrich von Herzogenberg and German composer Hugo Distler, who tragically fell foul of the Nazi regime. Having sacred rather than liturgical texts, composers had the freedom to explore the depths and heights of emotions expressed by the words, often in ways which lift up the spirit.
