Evening Meditations

Contemplative Music for Choir and Saxophone

Add to my Calendar 28-10-2023 19:30 28-10-2023 21:30 36 Evening Meditations Epsom Chamber Choir are eagerly looking forward to their October concert, Evening Meditations, the first programmed and directed by new conductor Jack Apperley. Jack’s programme presents an intriguing combination of choir and saxophone, inspired by the iconic 1994 album “Officium” with saxophonist Jan Garbarek and The Hilliard Ensemble. The centrepiece of the first half of the concert is a series of ‘nocturnes’ arranged by Christian Forshaw, where the vocal parts are embroidered with improvisations played by star saxophonist Naomi Sullivan. Naomi will also join the choir in pieces by James MacMillan and Will Todd.   In addition, the programme includes music from composers Paul Mealor, Gail Randall (her setting of George Herbert's "The Call") and Cecilia McDowall. The second part of the concert is devoted to the elegiac and much-loved Requiem by Herbert Howells. Of his appointment Jack says: “I know Epsom Chamber Choir very well and am very excited about the ambitious programming and exceptional standard of performance that I can expect from such an accomplished choir.”  Epsom Chamber Choir is one of Surrey’s leading chamber choirs, performing regularly at St Martin’s Church, Epsom where the excellent acoustics make the most of the choir’s superb sound.
