A CONCERT TO TAKE YOU TO THE HEAVENS
If you would like to leave a concert with your feet tapping in rhythm and your head in the heavens, come along to Epsom Chamber Choir’s summer concert at St Martin’s Church, Epsom on 29th June.
The central work is Will Todd’s Mass in Blue for which the choir will be joined by a Jazz trio and soprano vocalist from the Royal Academy of Music. This work, a setting in a Jazz idiom of the Catholic Mass, was composed in 2003 and has fast become a modern choral classic, popular with choirs and their audiences in the UK and abroad.
Music by three other contemporary composers complete the programme, namely Stargazer by Alec Roth; Ērik Ešenvald’s ethereal Northern Lights, where you can expect to hear not only the voices of the choir but also tuned wine glasses and hand chimes to evoke the glorious dance of the Aurora Borealis; and Jonathan Dove’s Passing of the Year with our own Stephen Ridge playing the virtuosic piano accompaniment.
Epsom Chamber Choir is a highly-regarded choir regularly performing ambitious and exciting programmes in the wonderful acoustics of St Martin of Tours Church, Epsom. They will be directed in this concert by their regular conductor, rising star Jack Apperley.
