Programme Note

Peter has worked with composer Robert Saxton for many years. This has resulted in new pieces for string quartet and an exciting body of work for solo violin. Over the past year, Robert assembled a collection of miniatures. These reflect the shared fascinations and interests of composer and violinist, ranging from travelogue-like vignettes, to 'Little Fantazia on Ave Maris Stella'. This is inspired by the extraordinary architecture of St Mary Aldemary.

Telemann's 1735 'Fantasies' offer a fascinating counterpoint to Saxton's cycle. Peter has critically acclaimed history with the set, having recorded it twice, and sharing his passion for the works worldwide.

Peter Sheppard Skærved - Violin

'Peter Sheppard Skærved clearly responds to the music's communicative desires; it now has a conversational tone, now sings with the breathiness of a very human voice' New York Times
