Programme Note
A dynamic sense of nuance and colour.' La Nación
The Ancient Greeks believed everything in the universe was made up of four elements: Earth, Wind, Fire and Water - a belief which has found continued expression in art and philosophy throughout the Ages. This dynamic and imaginative programme juxtaposes an array of works evoking the four Elements by 19th and 20th century composers from France, Hungary, Spain, and the artist's native Argentina.
Valentina Díaz-Frénot is one of Argentina's most celebrated pianists and a staunch representative of the Argentine piano school. A graduate of the National Conservatoire of Music, she also studied in Spain with Alicia De Larrocha. Valentina has garnered awards at numerous international competitions, including Jaen and Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Spain, and the Gabriel Fauré Special award at the Marguerite Long International Competition in France. Valentina has performed across Europe's major venues, including the Philarmonie in Berlin and the Salle Cortot in Paris, and she enjoys a busy performance schedule as a soloist and chamber musician, featureing regularly as a guest soloist with orchestras throughout Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. In 2002 she was decorated with the Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Government for her contribution to the dissemination of French piano music.
