Harmonies of heaven and earth

Great choral music

Add to my Calendar 18-05-2024 19:30 18-05-2024 21:30 36 Harmonies of heaven and earth Join us for a concert of great choral music performed by the luminatus vocal ensemble, a 'choir of exceptional ability'. This small ensemble consists of superb professional singers from the East Midlands and East of England, creating a vibrant and 'luminous sound'. Catch the group following the release of their new CD, O Beata Virgo Maria. This concert is one of a sequence exploring great choral works. Some are very familiar, whilst others are less well known, but deserve to be more widely heard. The repertoire for this concert focuses on sacred music and will range from early music, especially the work of Phillipe de Monte, a Flemish composer of the late Renaissance period. De Monte wrote numerous madrigals and was described as "the best composer in the entire country, particularly in the new manner and musica reservata."  William Byrd and Phillipe de Monte admired each other, and even participated in an early form of collaboration. The second half will include music from the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first century. It will feature pieces by Giuseppe Verdi, Arvo Pärt, John Tavener and Eleanor Daley. There will be a fantastic opportunity to engage with the music of Becky McGlade, including the world premiere of Love Divine.
