Programme Note

Amersham & Chesham Bois Choral Society perform Dixit Dominus by Georg Friedrich Handel and Mass in G by Franz Schubert.

Dixit Dominus was completed by a young Handel in 1707in Italy and is a five part choral work (SSATB) in the baroque style. It is a high energy work, demanding for soloists, choir and orchestra but dazzling in its impact and a wonderful choral experience.

Franz Schubert's Mass in G (D 167) was composed in March 1817 and is the best known of his three short mass settings. In contract to the dazzling energy of Handel's Dixit Dominus, it creates a more intimate and lyrical atmosphere and is a favourite for performance by church choirs, due to its relatively uncomplicated setting.

Handel: Dixit Dominus; Schubert: Mass in G;
