Antonio Lucio Vivaldi composed the Gloria in Venice, probably in 1715, for the choir of the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage for girls. Vivaldi, a priest, music teacher and virtuoso violinist, composed many sacred works for the Ospedale, where he spent most of his career. This, his most famous choral piece, presents the traditional Gloria from the Latin Mass in twelve varied cantata-like sections.
In Windsor Forest is a cantata, adapted by the composer from Vaughan Williams opera 'Sir John in Love' and includes settings of words by Shakespeare (from 'Much Ado About Nothing') and his near contemporaries: John Still, Thomas Ravenscroft, John Lyly, Ben Jonson, Thomas Campion and Philip Rosseter.
Let all the World is the final song from Five Mystical Songs, the first four being settings of Vaughan four of Herbert’s. This final song, ‘Antiphon,’ is a triumphant hymn of praise that is punctuated with the refrain ‘Let all the world in every corner sing: my God and King!’
The song cycle Along The Field, is a setting of verse by A E Houseman. the piece relies simply on a vocal line and a solo violin.
