Programme Note

Soprano Katherine Crompton has worked with groups including Glyndebourne Festival Opera, London Handel Festival, and Oxford Lieder Festival, and tonight she performs Wagner’s searching song cycle Wesendonck-Lieder with chamber orchestra.

St Marylebone Director of Music Bertie Baigent conducts, and the programme is completed by Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and Wagner’s serenely beautiful Siegfried Idyll.

Music has always been a core part of the life of St Marylebone, with many connections and histories interwoven into our history and community. Wagner visited Marylebone in 1855 where he was the guest of the violinist Prosper Stainton, resident at 8 Hinde Street, and tonight’s orchestra includes many alumni of Marylebone’s own world-renowned musical institution, the Royal Academy of Music.

Join us for an evening of musical transcendence!

Escapism and transcendence from the everyday through musical performances of Wagner and Debusy's compositions.
