Programme Note
Join The Edinburgh Singers for a celebration of British composers and their finest choral music. The concert opens with a selection of James MacMillan's Strathclyde Motets, sacred works reflecting the composer’s deep spirituality, emotional depth and distinctive use of traditional elements. The motets are complemented by William Harris' exquisite choral pieces Faire is the Heaven and Bring us o Lord God, Philip Stopford's richly harmonic Ave Regina Caelorum and John Tavener's Song for Athene, which gained worldwide recognition when it was performed at the funeral of Princess Diana.
The programme continues with a series of traditional folk songs, including Ca’ the Yowes and Londonderry Air, as well as James MacMillan’s settings of The Gallant Weaver and Lassie Wad Ye Lo’e Me? In the stunning setting of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, this promises to be a very special evening!
