Programme Note

St Mary's Cathedral is thrilled to host one of France's greatest organists, improvisers and composers, Thierry Escaich. His 3 poèmes pour orgue has three movements: Eaux Natales, Le Masque and Vers l'espérance. The Improvised Symphony on Scottish themes contains a Prélude, Scherzo, Andante and Final.

Making a rare appearance in Scotland, this is a unique chance to hear him at the peak of his powers on the St Mary's Cathedral organ, one of the UK's finest instruments. As well as masterworks from the 18th-21st centuries, Escaich will also improvise an entire symphony based on traditional Scottish tunes. In association with Glasgow Cathedral Festival.
