Programme Note

Wooburn Singers are delighted to have been asked to sing at this year's Chiltern Arts Festival. Joined by the Piatti Quartet we have a beautiful selection of music.

Gerald Finzi wrote his Seven Poems of Robert Bridges whilst courting Joy Black. Eric Whitacre set poems written by his partner Hila Plitmann in the Five Hebrew Love Songs to capture special moments in their relationship. Alexander Borodin dedicated his String Quartet No. 2 to his wife, who inspired its creation. Drawing together these intimate glimpses of composers’ romantic lives, Toby Young’s stunning setting of William Blake’s poem, Love and Harmony closes the concert. It is written for SATB choir and strings.

St Mary's Church, on the river at Henley, is the perfect venue for a summer concert.
