Programme Note

The English Chamber Choir is one of the UK’s leading and busiest vocal ensembles. Recent highlights include the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, London Palladium (with Rick Wakeman), Buckingham Palace, Temple Church, Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St Sophia and many concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields and abroad.

Alongside familiar works (Eric Whitacre’s ‘Lux Aurumque’ and a choral reworking of Bach, this vibrant programme also explores stunning folk-inspired contemporary repertoire and the work of internationally-celebrated local composers. The centrepiece is Richard Sisson’s exhilarating Arundel Mass for choir, organ and saxophone.

ECC is conducted by highly-acclaimed Artistic Director, Rufus Frowde. The choir is accompanied by one of the UK’s (and Hitchin’s) finest and most versatile musicians, Iain Farrington and saxophonist, Jonathan Radford - one of the leading classical saxophonists of his generation.

“I’m not sure I’ve ever appreciated how lovely the saxophone can sound until hearing this. Warmth, character and joy abound.”

(Michael Beek, BBC Music Magazine, 5* Review of The Saxophone Craze)
