Programme Note
With generous support from the Delius Society, we begin this concert with Frederick Delius's sublime 2 pieces for small orchestra - On hearing the first cuckoo in Spring, and Summer night on the river.
We are pleased to welcome a good friend of the orchestra, Daryl Guiliano, as soloist in Elgar's cello concerto - the composer's poignant reflection after the First World War.
In complete contrast, the concert ends with Dvorak's sunniest symphony, the 8th in G major.
