Programme Note

In this, her first visit to Cornwall, the Armenian soprano Anush Hovhannisyan presents songs by Rossini, Liszt, Tchaikovsky and Alban Berg, as well as opera arias by Verdi and Puccini. Hovhannisyan, one of the outstanding young artists of her generation, shot to stardom after her appearance in last year’s BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Since then she has stunned critics with her portrayal of Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata for both Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera, has appeared at the BBC Proms and performed on BBC Radio 3 accompanied on the piano by Timothy Dean, who also joins her for this concert.

"Anush Hovhannisyan sweeps all before her with her bright lyric soprano and tall handsome figure. ... this was a 'star is born' moment for the young Armenian." The Sunday Times
