Programme Note

Too many long, dark winter nights? Join us for inspiration as we present a recital of music written in the shadows to explore the ideas of light and hope.

Our programme begins with Five Pieces for Two Violins and Piano by Shostakovich: the epitome of lighthearted humour and genial charm.

Mozart and Beriot provide irrepressible optimism - and the musical illusion of a much larger orchestra - while Sarasate and Respighi offer music which is deeply intimate, radiating warmth inspired by the landscales of Italy and Iberia.

In Kreisleriana, the wild, eccentric visions of Schumann's Florestan finally give way to the dreamy Eusebius in a movement of extraordinary tranquility. And in his D major sonata, Beethoven is undeniably in playful mood.

Join us for all this music, and more, at St Mary's historic church in Twickenham, TW1, London.
