Programme Note
The Chiswick Choir’s first year with their new musical director, Hilary Campbell saw a focus on 20th and 21st Century music. This year’s programme starts with its first concert on Saturday 3rd December with works by three of the giants of 19th Century music. The concert starts with Bruckner’s polished and emotive Requiem in D, a rare chance to hear this underrated and seldom performed work.
The second half opens with four German folk songs by Brahms sung by the young Mezzo Helen Stanley. Then there is a choral version of Schubert’s much-loved Ave Maria. The concert ends with a performance of the short Mass in G by Schubert.
Among the soloists for the evening will be the tenor Alex Haigh, a Chiswick resident who can be spotted in local parks with his cockerpoo Barney.
