Programme Note
Kew Sinfonia invites you to share an evening of beautiful and contemplative music as we present our autumn concert. Our programme offers a glimpse into an idyllic world of childhood innocence, encompassing fairy tales, poetry and celestial imagery.
Ravel’s enchanting Mother Goose Suite is followed by the premiere of a composition by our very own conductor, Daniel Hogan: 3 Songs, inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson. Stemming from the isolation of the 2020 lockdowns, Daniel’s songs are a musical exploration of emotions such as love, loss, vulnerability and hope.
Daniel’s work complements the themes of our last piece, Mahler’s sublime 4th symphony – his “gentlest, sunniest, and most affirmative work” – which depict the very profound issues of life, death and heavenly transcendence, the serene last movement depicting a vision of heaven as seen through the eyes of a child.
We are delighted to be joined by Mezzo-Soprano Emily Hodkinson for Daniel’s 3 songs and the final movement of the Mahler symphony.
