Programme Note

This concert illuminates the variety of ways ‘light’ has proved a constant source of inspiration to composers and poets across the centuries, whether it be sunlight, moonlight, starlight or a flicker at the end of a tunnel. Featuring choruses from Elgar’s oratorio, The Light of Life, alongside music by Rachmaninoff, Amy Beach, John Rutter, Duke Ellington and The Beatles.

Petros Singers is a well-regarded, auditioned chamber choir with a reputation for high-quality singing and innovative programmes. We perform a wide-ranging and diverse repertoire and collaborate with top-class orchestras and soloists in West and Central London.

Richard Bannan, our musical director, is a baritone, conductor and teacher. Richard sings with many of the country's leading vocal ensembles, including the Choir of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, where he is a lay clerk.

Andrew Wells will be accompanying us and performing some solo organ works. Andrew has been Petros Singers’ rehearsal pianist since 1987. He is a professional organist, piano accompanist, private teacher and theory of music examiner and is currently organist at St George’s, Campden Hill.
