Programme Note

All the Whiddon Autumn Festival's resident artists come together for a celebration of Scotland's beautiful musical heritage, co-curated by award-winning Scottish tenor Matthew McKinney.

Scottish folksongs will feature prominently — some performed by Matthew, and others by Corvus Consort, including choral arrangements by Scottish composers James MacMillan and Gemma McGregor. James MacMillan is one of Scotland's most decorated and renowned composers, and the concert will open with his searingly poignant A Child's Prayer, composed as a tribute to the victims of the Dunblane massacre in 1996.

Pianist Harry Baker and the Festival String Quartet will perform instrumental items inspired by traditional Scottish music, including two movements from Landscape to Light by Scottish pianist-composer James Ross.

The concert will feature the world premiere performance of a new work for choir by Composer-in-Residence Ben Nobuto, written specially for this concert.
