Programme Note
The Brighton Singers give a performance of two glorious choral works composed in the latter half of the 19th century. Both masses are representative of the sumptuous music of the Romantic era. Gabriel Fauré distilled some of the most beautiful melodies he ever composed in his popular Requiem Mass. In his Mass in D, Dvorak created an exquisite work rich in melodic and harmonic imagery. It is not performed so often but certainly deserves to be!
Conducted by Nicholas Houghton, both works are accompanied by organ played by Richard Dawson, with baritone and soprano solos sung by Andrew Robinson and Karen Rash.
