Easter Concert

Lydian Orchestra

Part of the Lydian Orchestra 39th Year Season

Add to my Calendar 02-04-2016 19:30 02-04-2016 21:30 36 Easter Concert The Lydian Orchestra is delighted to welcome back Ethan Merrick as conductor for our Easter Concert.  Invited to join the Lydian as a young cellist 30 years ago whilst at the Judd School in Tonbridge, after his university degree at Oxford and then a teaching qualification at Cambridge, he extended his cello studies and turned professional musician whilst in Scotland.  Having settled in neighbouring West Sussex as music teacher, conductor and director of ensembles, Ethan also rekindled his links with Kent, playing with Kentish Opera, Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra and others, but most importantly for the Lydian, serving with distinction both on the Lydian committee and as visiting conductor in the past.   Returning to conduct the Lydian in 2016, Ethan says: “working with the hugely talented members of this orchestra is always a pleasure, whether in their roles as orchestral players, soloists, composers, conductors, orchestral representatives or managers”.   The Lydian Orchestra was founded 40 years ago to give talented young (ages 14-25) musicians in West Kent the opportunity to play together.  It is the players themselves who organise the orchestra, resulting in a close-knit community which achieves full concert level performances.  Like this concert’s conductor, past players have gone on to achieve professional careers and some current members are already high profile soloists.  Even if you are unable to attend our Easter Concert, do put in your diaries now that the Lydian 40th Anniversary celebratory concert will be held at Sevenoaks School Pamoja Hall on Sunday 17 July 2016.
