Join us for an evening of festive joy!
Bach's masterpiece will be presented in a thoughtfully abridged version to be sung in German, with the Evangelist's narrative sung in English.
Scott Stroman, who prepared this abridgement, says of Bach's Oratorio that it "contains some of his very best and most detailed music... it is comprised of six separate cantatas originally designed to be performed on different festive days in the 1734-1735 Christmas season. It is possibly his greatest example of a parody composition, where he re-used existing music - usually secular cantatas with a limited shelf-life - for something more lasting.“
