Commotio's Choral Gems

Add to my Calendar 22-04-2017 19:30 22-04-2017 21:30 36 Commotio's Choral Gems Commotio is pleased to return to the fantastic setting of St Peter and St Paul’s for a concert packed full of spectacular choral works. Rheinberger’s ‘Cantus Missae’ is the only double choir work written by the composer and has been described as “the most beautiful pure vocal mass of the 19th century”. Pearsall’s ‘Lay a Garland’ and Harris’ ‘Faire is the Heaven’ are perhaps two of the most popular secular and liturgical eight part pieces in the English choral repertoire.   Staying true to its mission to promote contemporary and overlooked repertoire, Commotio will sing pieces by British composers, Allain and Chilcott and Polish composer Łukaszewski. Commotio’s  second CD with Bob Chilcott is due to be released in September 2017 and will hopefully be as successful as the first, which topped the Specialist Classical Chart in 2013. Allain’s beautifully sombre and gentle setting of the Salve Regina uses close harmonies to create a staggered texture, creating a seamless continuous halo of sound with each syllable melding into the next. Allain’s setting of Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘A Perfect Friend’ was written in 2015 to celebrate our director, Matthew Berry’s wedding. Łukaszewski’s setting of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 27 has been described as “one of [his] most imaginative choral works”.   Join Commotio for an evening of choral music, celebrating the very best of unaccompanied choral music from the 19th Century to modern day.   “I defy anyone to sing better than Commotio!” Bob Chilcott (composer) St Peter & St Paul Church, Great Missenden DD/MM/YYYY
