Programme Note

This year’s Winter Concert includes three pieces of music known for their beauty and melodies. The lyrical Fauré Requiem includes the well loved Pie Jesu, Agnus Dei and In Paradisum. It was first performed in 1888 and was originally set for organ accompaniment, which is the version Buckingham Choral Society has chosen to perform.

There will also be Dvorak Mass is D Major, which is marked by its folksong-like melodic character and its harmonic richness. The mass is pure Dvorak; it clearly reflects the composer’s humble faith, his natural humility in the face of a higher Order and his true joy of life.

Finally, to round off this inspiring Winter Concert, there will be Cesar Franck’s magnificent Chorale No 3 in A Minor.

The concert will be conducted by Julian Mann, Musical Director of Buckingham Choral Society.
