Programme Note
We have an exciting concert coming up on 10th October in Tonbridge Parish Church. The popular Capriccio Italien by Tchaikovsky will feature in the second half while in the first we will showcase two works by the young American composer Eric Whitacre, renowned for his choral writing as well as for a number of widely-performed pieces for Symphonic Wind Band. The rhythmic Equus, influenced by minimalist composers such as Steve Reich, conveys the energy of a galloping horse, while October is a slowly-moving celebration of the composer’s favourite month. Alongside these we have a Scottish theme with the Lochnagar Suite by Nigel Hess, well-known as a composer of television themes, and Ye Banks and Braes in a setting by Percy Grainger. A couple of medleys of film and show tunes round out the programme. It should be a most enjoyable concert. Admission will be free, though we will welcome donations.
