Programme Note

Pakefield Singers will next be performing in the grandeur of St Peter Mancroft Church in Norwich, and the programme has been chosen to showcase both the renowned Collins organ and the glory of choral singing within this magnificent building.

The main work is Vierne’s majestic, but rarely performed, Messe Solennelle, for choir and two organs. The church of St Peter Mancroft enjoys the luxury of two splendid organs and so this is a unique opportunity to hear this glorious work as Vierne intended it to be performed.  The programme also includes four motets and anthems by Mendelssohn, including Hear my Prayer/O for the Wings of a Dove as well as some for double chorus. Our soloist is Katalin Prentice, an international prize-winning soprano, who will perform Mozart’s exquisite Exsultate Jubilate and then soar above the choir in the Easter Hymn from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana. Organist Tim Patient will put the Collins organ through its paces in Buxtehude’s tour de force Toccata and Fugue in F. The performance will be conducted by the charismatic and highly experienced vocal specialist and choir trainer Vetta Wise.
