Whitehall Choir

Programme Note

Whitehall Choir explore some of the wealth of wonderful choral music from the Baltic region, including music from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. From well-known works such as Arvo Pärt’s Bogoroditse Devo and The Beatitudes to lesser-known works by the nineteenth century Lithuanian composer Juozas Naujalis and Galina Grigorjeva who was originally born in Ukraine but is now based in Estonia. The music and texts range from the beautiful still, calm and icy such as Ēriks Ešenvalds’s Northern Lights to the fiery St John’s Day Songs for Midsummer’s Eve by Veljo Tormis.
