Programme Note
This Christmas, Petros Singers are delighted to reunite with London Youth Choir West – our wonderful collaborators from our 40th-anniversary concert – along with London Youth Choir Junior Boys for a festive performance of Benjamin Britten’s evergreen cantata, Saint Nicolas.
Alongside this masterpiece, you will enjoy Bob Chilcott’s exuberant setting of The Twelve Days of Christmas, as well as festive favourites from John Rutter – whose name is synonymous with Christmas choral music – Will Todd and Steven Sametz. We are also proud to perform music by acclaimed local composer, Cecilia McDowall.
At this most magical time of year, join us for an evening filled with candlelight, mulled wine and mince pies, and the joyful tradition of audience carols.
Petros Singers is a leading West London chamber choir. We give three or four concerts each year – in West London, major venues in central London and sometimes further afield – collaborating with top-class soloists and instrumentalists. We perform a wide variety of music to a high standard, placing particular emphasis on vibrant and communicative singing. Our repertoire is often idiosyncratic, going beyond the typical canonical works in order to shine a eight on forgotten masterpieces and rare choral treasures.
London Youth Choirs is dedicated to raising voices and shaping lives. Through its citywide community of choirs and free school programmes, LYC brings young people together to find their voice, develop their musical skills, and experience the joy, connection and opportunities that singing can bring. LYC’s singers take on the challenge of a rich classical repertoire as well as exploring diverse contemporary styles. The approach is intentionally inclusive, with a particular commitment to improving access for disadvantaged young people, supporting them in finding their unique voice and enabling them to thrive through music.
