Programme Note
For our concert on 24th March we are delighted to be joined by Lucinda Dunne to perform Weber's lyrical and virtuosic clarinet concerto no 1. Lucinda is a recent graduate of the Royal College of Music, where she studied both saxophone and clarinet under professors Kyle Horch and Janet Hilton. In 2012, she reached the woodwind category final of BBC Young Musician of the Year.
Brahms' majestic first symphony was over 20 years in the making. Now regarded as one of the greatest romantic symphonies, it is a warm hearted reassuring work, with moments of high drama contrasted with others of lyrical beauty.
