Programme Note

The heart of Music for Passiontide lies in two twentieth century masterpieces, Leighton's Crucifixus Pro Nobis - our conductor, Paul Spicer, as a chorister at New College Oxford, sang in its first performance in 1962 - and Howells' extraordinary Requiem, which although written in 1932 was kept as a personal document until 1980 when it was published.

Some beautiful early music opens the programme and we will conclude with J S Bach's moving Ruht Wohl from St John Passion.

This will be a memorable concert for us, not least because it begins our Centenary Celebrations, and we are sure it will be equally so for you too.
