Programme Note
For Carillon’s first concert of the new season, our Musical Director, Crispin Lewis, has chosen three of J S Bach’s ever-popular motets; in addition to those listed overleaf we shall perform Lobet den Herrn. All will be accompanied on Baroque cello by Nikolay Ginov, a Bulgarian / British cellist and a versatile musician who performs worldwide and has a wide range of repertoire from 17th century to contemporary music. Nikolay will also perform one of Bach’s six Suites for unaccompanied Cello - no. 1 in G major.
According to a prominent musicologist, Josef Rheinberger’s unaccompanied Mass in E flat for Double Choir (1878) is “the most beautiful, pure vocal music of the 19th century”. We shall also perform his lovely short motet Abendlied.
