Programme Note
Join the Illyrian Ensemble as they explore two symphonies inspired by the great city, London.
Haydn's final Symphony, no 104 is the last of the 12 symphonies written during his time in England. It is a monumental capstone to the symphonic tradition that Haydn helped build, and not without his characteristic wit.
Vaughan Williams produced a 'Symphony by a Londoner' that evokes the chimes of Westminster, a bank holiday on Hampstead Heath, Bloomsbury Square on a cold November afternoon and the flaring lights of The Strand in his Symphony no 2.
An evening of music inspired by London in one of London’s most beautiful churches.
The Illyrian Ensemble will be conducted by their founder and artistic director, Benjamin James.
