Programme Note
Vocalis chamber choir presents a summer evening of choral music and celebration in the beautiful setting of St Wilfrid’s Church Harrogate. We will be accompanied by Tim Harper on the organ and piano and the percussion team will be led by Taneli Clarke.
As we continue our 50th anniversary year of musical celebrations we are thrilled to invite you to join us for our choral concert ‘Viva la Musica’ and afterwards to a buffet reception where there will be a chance to meet and celebrate with past and present Musical Directors and choir members.
The one hour programme which is also Alex Kyle’s final concert with Vocalis contains beautiful music including Gerald Finzi, Clara Schumann, John Rutter, Ian Assersohn and Laura Mvula. The choir will also be performing two stunning pieces by Eric Whitacre: his dramatic ‘Cloudburst’ with piano and percussion and his captivating piece ‘Sleep’.
We will also be performing the world premiere of ‘When music sounds’ commissioned by Vocalis for this event and composed by Anthony Gray. Anthony is a local musician who is Musical Director and organist at St Wilfrid’s Church whilst also rapidly making a name for himself on the national scene.
We are encouraging former choir members to join us on stage for an exciting joint performance of Parry’s ‘I was Glad’! If you are a former member and haven't already received an invite for this, do please get in touch!
Tickets (including after concert buffet) £20 adults; full time students £10; Under 19’s and essential companions and carers free. For catering purposes, we would encourage advance ticket purchase.
