Our Mother

Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with Dame Emma Kirkby

Add to my Calendar 20-03-2024 19:30 20-03-2024 21:30 36 Our Mother O, thou Mother, fount of love, touch my spirit from above, make my heart with thine accord. Figure is joined by Dame Emma Kirkby for a new, intimate production of Pergolesi’s iconic masterpiece, staged by celebrated director Sophie Daneman, and performed by women of multiple generations. Following our acclaimed production of Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri (THIS IS MY BODY, ★★★★ The Times), Figure will perform without barriers between audience and musicians in the atmospheric Stone Nest. The Stabat Mater is a call to share in the pain of a grieving mother, hoping to be redeemed through the act of compassion. With new music by Alex Mills (“Music of supernatural poignancy, melodic but otherworldly, narratively urgent but poetically impressionistic" – The Guardian) weaving around Pergolesi’s original setting of the text, join us for a moving reflection on life and death, and a rallying cry to find a common humanity in our suffering. Figure is very grateful to the Continuo Foundation and the Hinrichsen Foundation for their generous support of this production. Running time: 60 minutes Creatives: Frederick Waxman - Musical Director. Sophie Daneman - Director. Alex Mills - Composer. Chris Burr - Lighting Designer. Stone Nest - Chinatown, London DD/MM/YYYY
