Programme Note

A musical journey that’s ghoulish, fantastical and other-worldly, featuring composer Saint-Saen’s hair-raising Dance Macabre, a depiction of the dead rising from their graves to dance to Death’s fiddle.

There’s magic of a more playful sort with Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and then a visit to the cavern inhabited by a troll king in Grieg’s The Hall of The Mountain King – music that goes at breakneck speed, depicting chaos in the cavern as an angry mob chases through the cave.

There’s also music to intrigue, with Lili Boulangers’ D’un Soir Triste (One Sad Evening) plus the mysterious Le Diamant Noir by Mel Bonis.

The whole performance is set to professionally designed lighting, enhancing the drama, and with the audience seated surrounding the orchestra.

Performance lasts one hour – there’s also an opportunity to meet the musicians after the show.
