Programme Note

Experience settings of some of the deeply moving, spiritual poems by Gerard Manley Hopkins in the place where he lived, studied and taught for several years – Stonyhurst College, Clitheroe.

One of Lancashire’s leading chamber choirs, Blackburn Chamber Choir, based at Blackburn Cathedral, is performing musical settings of some of Hopkins’ well-loved poems alongside readings of his works and other linked pieces.  The concert includes the rarely performed setting of 7 poems by Britten 'Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam' and the Uk premiere of 'As Kingfishers Catch Fire' by Philip Moore.
