Programme Note

The Cheltenham Bach Choir will be singing Bach’s monumental and stunning St Matthew Passion this Easter in the glorious setting of Tewkesbury Abbey; they will be joined by a top line-up of soloists and some of the UK’s best Baroque instrumentalists.
The St Matthew Passion is rightly recognised as a pinnacle of creativity - a dramatic and incredibly moving masterpiece. The story unfolds with a narrator, the Evangelist, taking us all on a journey, with the choir representing the many crowds that throng the story. Utterly mesmerising as spectacle and performance, an oratorio for all times, it is truly not to be missed.
