Add to my Calendar 03-02-2018 19:30 03-02-2018 21:30 36 APO Dances Reading’s Aldworth Philharmonic launches dance project with world premiere Hip swinging, elegant, furious, wistful - Reading’s Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra’s latest dance inspired performance will span all these moods and more, as well as premiering an exciting new piece. At 7.30pm on Saturday 3rd February, the beautiful Great Hall at the University of Reading’s London Road campus, will play host to what promises to be an exhilarating event.   During its 15-year history, APO has commissioned and premiered nearly 4 hours of new music by talented young composers - an outstanding feat for an orchestra made up entirely of volunteers. The very first winner of APO’s Young Composers’ Award back in 2003 was Reading-based composer Roger May. He’s since worked with the orchestra several times, most recently on the #APOpictures project, which was shortlisted in the inaugural Reading Cultural Awards ‘performance of the year’ category. This time, Roger has been commissioned to write a series of short dances in various styles. But this won’t be the only time Reading audiences get to hear them. The orchestra plans to present a second performance in 2019 complete with live performances by local dancers. The new dances will be performed alongside Danzon No. 2 by Mexican composer Gabriel Marquez, and Rachmaninov’s brilliant Symphonic Dances. We really love classical music, and believe that the sight and sound of a live orchestra and choir is something to behold. If you’ve never attended a live classical performance, you can see this one FREE through our Concert Virgin scheme. Tickets are £15 for adults (£13 concessions, £8 children), with a £3 discount on these prices for EARLY BIRD tickets, purchased before 14th Januray 2018. Buy your tickets from www.aldworthphilharmonic.org.uk/next-concert, where Concert Virgins can also register for their FREE tickets.   The Great Hall - Reading University, Reading DD/MM/YYYY
