Programme Note
In the first half of the concert students take to the stage with a range of solo works showing off the instruments taught at the school. This is a great chance to hear our talented students perform the pieces they have worked on for so long, and to celebrate the end of another successful year with them.
After the interval students are joined by Music Director Ashley Wass for Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No 2. With its extraordinary opening for solo cello playing harmonics, this haunting work is an outpouring both of Shostakovich’s horror at the atrocities of World War II as well as his deeply personal grief at the loss of a close friend.
